Roblox is rolling out new real-time moderation technology designed to detect inappropriate content and behaviour involving player avatars while users are inside experiences.

The system is part of Roblox’s broader push toward real-time, AI-powered moderation, allowing the platform to analyse multiple elements of a scene at once, including avatars, text and 3D objects. Roblox says the technology is designed to identify rule-breaking behaviour as it happens rather than relying solely on traditional reports or post-upload moderation.

The move means avatar-related violations can potentially be detected while a player is actively in a game. Roblox has previously warned developers that in-game avatar editors and combinations of user-created items can be misused to create inappropriate content, and has encouraged creators to monitor these systems.

Roblox's existing moderation system already uses automated detection alongside human moderators. Avatars and avatar accessories are among the visual assets Roblox scans for potentially harmful content, with flagged material subject to further review.

According to Roblox, its newer real-time multimodal moderation system can assess an entire scene rather than looking at individual assets in isolation. If repeated violations occur within a particular server, Roblox can automatically shut down that server rather than taking the entire experience offline. Players are then given the option to reconnect to another server or return to the Roblox dashboard.

The technology comes as Roblox continues to expand its safety systems amid increasing attention on moderation across the platform. Roblox says its moderation approach combines automated systems with thousands of human moderators, with users also able to report inappropriate content and behaviour.

For players, the rollout could mean that inappropriate avatar content is detected much faster, potentially stopping violations before they remain visible to other users for an extended period.

Roblox has indicated that its real-time moderation technology will continue to expand to cover additional areas of its Community Standards as the system develops.
