Roblox is planning to introduce a range of new tools that will give game developers more ways to customise the in-game text chat experience over the next year.
The upcoming features aim to make communication more interactive and personalised, giving creators greater control over how players communicate within their experiences.
Planned additions include:
- Emoji Menu: Allowing players to use emojis more easily in chat.
- Voice Typing: Enabling players to dictate messages using their voice.
- Avatars in Chat: Bringing player avatars into the chat interface.
- Custom Name Colours: Giving creators the ability to change player name colours.
- Typing Indicators: Showing when another player is typing a message.
Roblox has also teased additional features beyond those currently listed, suggesting that further customisation options could arrive as development continues.
The updates will build on Roblox's TextChatService, the system developers use to implement and manage text chat within their experiences.
While the features are planned to roll out over the next year, Roblox has not specified exact release dates for each individual addition in the announcement.
Developers can read the full announcement and learn more about the upcoming TextChatService updates on the Roblox Developer Forum.
