Roblox has officially discontinued its Connect API, a feature that allowed developers to integrate direct user-to-user calling experiences within their games and experiences.
The Connect API was introduced as part of Roblox's broader vision to make the platform more social and immersive. It enabled users to initiate voice and video calls with friends directly from supported experiences, helping players stay connected without leaving Roblox.
With the discontinuation of the API, developers will no longer be able to create new features that rely on Roblox Connect, and existing implementations are expected to stop functioning. Roblox has not announced a direct replacement for the service at this time.
The decision marks a significant shift in Roblox's communication tools. While standard voice chat features remain available in eligible experiences, the removal of Connect means players can no longer place direct calls to one another through in-game interfaces built using the API.
Developers who previously used Connect are now reviewing alternative ways to keep players connected, including traditional voice chat systems, messaging features, and community platforms outside of Roblox.
Roblox stated that it regularly evaluates its products and services to focus on features that provide the greatest value to its community. As part of this process, some services may be retired as the platform continues to evolve.
The retirement of Connect closes a chapter in Roblox's efforts to bring social communication tools directly into experiences. For many developers, the feature represented an experiment in creating deeper social interactions within games, while for players it offered a unique way to communicate without leaving the platform.
Further information regarding the shutdown and any future communication features is expected to be shared through Roblox's developer channels.
