Roblox Opens Animation Packs to Creators in Major Marketplace Expansion

The move marks a significant step toward what Roblox describes as the future of “Movement Styles” — a long-term vision where players can fully customize how they move across all experiences on the platform.

New Creator-Built Animation Categories

As part of the pilot program, Roblox is introducing three new animation categories:

Animation Packs (R15)

Creators can design full locomotion bundles consisting of seven core movement animations: Idle, Walk, Run, Jump, Fall, Climb, and Swim. These packs will replace a player’s default movement across all compatible games.

Animation Packs with Additional Joints

An expanded version of standard animation packs, this category allows creators to animate additional body parts such as fingers, shoulders, and facial features, enabling more expressive movement styles.

Emotes with Additional Joints

UGC Emotes are also being upgraded, allowing full joint control for enhanced gestures, including finger movement and detailed hand poses.

Early Access for Selected Creators

Creators who apply for the pilot program will gain early access to animation creation tools before public release. Roblox stated that participants will be able to:

  • Build and publish content ahead of general availability
  • Work directly with Roblox teams to refine tools and workflows
  • Launch Animation Packs on the Marketplace during the pilot phase

The company plans to open publishing and selling to all eligible creators in the coming months.

Application and Eligibility

Applications for the pilot are being reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once capacity is reached, submissions will close.

To qualify, creators must:

  • Meet Roblox’s requirements for uploading and publishing 3D content
  • Have a history of compliance with Marketplace policies

Existing UGC Program participants are automatically accepted, though they must still submit an application to confirm interest and select their desired product categories.

Creators who opt in will also be subject to a short hold period, with Marketplace listing eligibility expected by the end of June.

Building Toward Movement Styles

Roblox emphasized that Animation Packs are only the beginning of a broader roadmap. The long-term goal is “Movement Styles,” a system of creator-authored animation graphs that will allow deeper personalization of player movement across all experiences.

Importantly, Roblox confirmed that all content created during this pilot phase will remain compatible as the system evolves.

What’s Next

Roblox says it will continue refining the creation and upload tools throughout the pilot, working closely with early creators to address issues in real time. Feedback from participants will help shape the final version of the system before full public rollout.

Creators interested in joining the program are encouraged to apply before the June 29 deadline.
