🚫 End of Cross-Game Sales
Starting May 29, creators will no longer be able to sell developer products or game passes outside of their original experience or its Experience Details Page (EDP). This means popular donation and tipping systems that rely on cross-game purchases will stop working.
Roblox says this change is necessary because these systems were never designed for peer-to-peer Robux transfers and have increasingly been used in ways that expose players to scams and exploitation.
Creators are being encouraged to update their experiences before the deadline to avoid disruptions.
🔄 Introducing the Transfers API
To replace these systems, Roblox has launched the Transfers API, now available for developers to integrate. This feature allows direct Robux transfers between players inside a game, with built-in safety protections.
Unlike previous methods:
- Roblox takes 0% platform fee
- Creators earn 10% commission
- Recipients receive 90% of the Robux
This is a significant improvement compared to the old system, where recipients often received around 60%.
🔐 Safety Comes First
All transfers are processed through a Roblox-controlled interface, ensuring consistency and protection. The system includes:
- Fraud detection checks
- Daily and monthly transfer limits
- Transaction visibility for both users
- User reporting tools for suspicious activity
👤 Requirements for Players
To send or receive Robux using the Transfers API, players must meet certain requirements:
- Senders must have Roblox Plus
- Users aged 18+ must complete age verification
- Users under 18 need parental approval for every transfer
Notably, receiving Robux does not require a Plus subscription.
⚙️ For Developers
Developers can implement the system using:
- to initiate transfers
BindReceiptHandlerto handle completed transactions
Roblox emphasizes that while developers control how transfers are triggered in-game, the final transaction is handled through Roblox’s secure UI.
💰 What About Earnings?
Creators will continue to earn through transfers:
- 10% commission is DevEx-eligible
- The 90% received by players is not DevEx-able
This means the system is designed for in-game interactions—not as a replacement for paying contributors. Roblox recommends continuing to use group payouts for team payments.
⚠️ What This Means
This update will significantly impact donation-based games and communities that rely on tipping mechanics. However, it also introduces a more secure and transparent system that aligns with Roblox’s broader push for platform safety.
